What can happen to a person if they get "tied down" to a family before they are able to "explore" life?

Honestly, I don’t believe that employment will make me rich, so I want to do start doing business. Since this is not the "common" mindset in my family, they try to discourage me, even my girlfriend has the same mindset. What is best thing to do? Please help.
